14 points, 8 rebounds in gritty win over Downers Grove North
Rolling Meadows pulled off an impressive come from behind win against a talented Downers Grove North team on Saturday night, fighting back from a 9 point deficit with some key shooting and rebounding. They took the lead in the early fourth quarter and never relinquished it.
Miletic impressed again by showing his versatility and ability to adjust his game. While he normally gets a fair amount of of three point looks, a tough DGN perimeter defense prevented those opportunities. So instead Miletic focused on breaking down the defense by driving to the hoop, leading to 6 of 9 shooting and converting on some key three point plays. He also nabbed 8 rebounds, with a few happening in key situations late in the game.
Overall this was a really good example of Ian showcasing all the tools at his disposal and finding the right time to use them. Kudos to Coach Katovich for getting the Mustangs back into the game with the right halftime adjustments.
Lazarevic had 8 points and made a big impact with his passing and defense as Meadows (13-2) came back from a 9-point deficit late in the third quarter for a 39-37 victory.
“He’s a big piece off the bench and this year we’re so blessed with having such a deep team,” said Meadows’ senior Ian Miletic after he got 10 of his 14 points and 7 of his 8 rebounds in the second half.
But the 6-7 Miletic, who was accidentally kicked in the head in the final seconds of Saturday’s 39-37 win over Downers Grove North in the WSC/MSL Challenge, is getting a good primer for the current Big East when he heads to Marquette.
“That’s where his growth is,” said Meadows coach Kevin Katovich. “Last year teams would get super-physical with him and he’d get really frustrated. This year he sticks with it.”
Rolling Meadows 39, Downers Grove North 37: Rolling Meadows (13-2) was able to hold off a strong Downers Grove North squad after being led by Ian Miletic (14 points) and Lazar Lazarevic (8 pts., 5 assists). DGN led 20-11 at half, but Meadows closed the deficit to 30-28 entering the fourth.
